Mobile medical care comes to Twain and Whitman Elementary Schools

Twain and Whitman Elementary School students who hold Medicaid or have no health insurance were given free medical care in October, compliments of Advocate Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile unit. Medical providers were on hand to provide students with examinations needed for school physicals, immunizations, and other checkups needed to be compliant with school registration requirements.

The trailer, which was co-funded by Ronald McDonald House Charities(R), is a fully-equipped medical clinic on wheels, serving Chicagoland and communities north – up to Wisconsin.

On the day the mobile truck came, Twain and Whitman students got their height, weight, temperature and blood pressure checked. They were also given eye and other exams to round out their medical file. The mobile unit is also equipped with a remote translator. 

“We are grateful for Advocate, RMHC and the services they provide our students and are especially thankful for the convenience of supplying high-quality, free of cost healthcare care right in our school parking lot,” said Olivia Aguado, District 21’s Public Health Liaison. “It makes it very easy for our students to get their medical needs met,” she added.
