January 20, 2025
Dear CCSD 21 Parents and Guardians,
District 21 has been closely monitoring the forecasted cold temperatures for Tuesday morning. Current forecasts do not meet our area’s criteria for implementing a cold weather emergency day which is a sustained real temperature of minus 15 degrees fahrenheit or a sustained wind chill of minus 30 degrees fahrenheit. All CCSD 21 schools are expected to be open as usual tomorrow, Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
Should any major change in the weather overnight require us to change our plans, families will be notified by 5:30 AM via Parent Square text and email messaging and on our website and district social media channels.
Please ensure that students are dressed appropriately for the weather, including warm coats, hats, gloves, and other necessary winter clothing.
Finally, it is important to remind you that Illinois School Code and district policy allows parents to keep their child home from school if they deem the weather too hazardous, even if the district keeps schools open. As a parent or guardian, you have the final decision concerning your child and their safely traveling to or from school.
As always, the safety and security of our students and staff remains a top priority of CCSD21, our high school district, and our community. Thank you for your continued support and enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend.
Respectfully,
Dr. Michael Connolly
Superintendent
